No. Each strand of hair is genetically encoded with a timeline that includes, growing hair, resting, and shedding hairs. On average approximately 120 hairs per day are expected to shed from your scalp, however a majority of these hairs grow back because the follicle remains intact and active.
Follicles may also become dormant and die due to certain genetic factors. Hair loss is NOT gender specific, however males are more susceptible to the hormone called DHT or “Dihydrotestosterone.” When there is a genetic link to DHT, hair follicles begin to shrink and eventually die off which will eventually lead to permanent baldness.

With hair loss, the hair follicle progressively miniaturizes or becomes smaller as we age. Hence, the hair that is produced by that follicle also becomes smaller and thinner in diameter. A the hair becomes finer and thinner, it also will lose its pigment and spend less time in the Anagen stage (the active growth phase) which may vary between 2 – 4 years in length.
